How to do Request Inquiry by title (or author’s name)

If you cannot find a request by request number, a good option is to try searching by book title or author name.

  1. Login as staff and go into Request Inquiry
  2. Choose a word from the title (or author's name). Try to choose a unique word, as this will make searching easier.
  3. Type this word in the title (or author) field, subsituting the first and last letters of the word with a % sign. (This is a wildcard.)

Example: for the word "Serbia," you would type "%erbi%" in the box.

  4. Select "all current requests" and then click OK.

Request Inquiry Tips

Note that you can also perform Request Inquiries by the item's barcode, title, or patron ID. (Note that the barcode search will only work for requests that have already been shipped by a lending library.)

Additionally, you can perform a Request Inquiry for all items of a status either being lent or borrowed by your library. To do this, use the Status drop-down to select the status you wish to view, and then select "Requests made to your library" or "Requests made by your library's patron." Note that if you are a lending library and have not sucessfully set the item to shipped, the VC does not yet recognize this request as "made to your library."

Also note that request inquiries are often tricky. You may have to try searching a few different ways to find the request. Try title first, and if it doesn't work, try another combination of words from the title. Next try the author name and different combinations until you get a result. You can also call the Mass. VC Helpdesk for assistance in finding a request.
